This contest is being sponsored by the Knock At The Door creators at Duirwaigh Gallery. It's so inspiring and exciting!! I hope all of my friends here participate! Make sure you watch the movie if you've never seen it... trust me, you will be glad you did!

Here is the latest issue of Advanced Photoshop Magazine - and my Captain Persephone tutorial is in it! The one where I walk you step by step on how to create this picture:

If you click on the magazine image - it will take you to the AP online order form, where you can purchase the magazine online! An excellent option if you are in areas where it is difficult to find. However, I have been having problems getting signed in today... looks as if they are having some database errors, so you may want to wait a bit to place an order.

Thanks to all the wonderful stock providers who allowed me to use their images to create this work! It looks better than I could have hoped, printed up in the magazine. It still seems surreal to see my stuff in there. lol
I'm going to be compiling a new Steampunk news feature very soon - so if you have any suggestions, feel free to note me! I'm currently behind on my notes (sorry to all those who have written and haven't received a response. I'maworkinonit!

- and have about 20 more to clear out.

) - but label it "Steampunk Feature" if you have any suggestions!

Before I fell in love with digital art, I was heavily into photography. I still am. No trip is complete without feeling the weight of my Cannon Rebel SLR and it's 300mm zoom lens hanging from around my neck. I have fond memories of going into the local camera shop with my hubby, and purchasing my very first 'serious' camera... a Nikon FM10. I have stacks upon stacks of photos going back to middle school that I took with various little point-and-shoot cameras. I have about 25 rolls of undeveloped film just waiting like little time capsules for me to get off my duff and develope. Photography has always been and will always be a big deal to me.
I was delighted when my hubby,

, decided to pick up photography as well. His grandfather had been an avid photographer - the fruits of which are now housed in our basement in the form of hundreds if not thousands of slides taken everywhere from Alaska to India. I just had a hunch my guy would excel at photography if he gave it a chance.
And sure enough, I was right. He is a natural when it comes to spotting the form, function and beauty of every day objects. He has left me in the dust when it comes to photographing beautiful minimalist objects, and abstract patterns. I constantly marvel at his dogged determination to do as little postwork in photoshop or with his RAW images as possible. He strives to take the perfect picture, every time. Something I rarely have the patience to do.
So... all of that leads up to what I'm about to say: Please don't overlook photography. It constantly amazes me how little 'love' good photography gets here on dA, aside from a few who have risen to the level of LensGods. And I'm just as guilty as the next person of not really taking proper time to visit and admire photographers. I need to be better about that. And I hope other people take the time to do so as well.
I'm posting just a few of the recent things my hubby has taken, which I think are fantastic. If you have a few moments, go check them out. He'd be thrilled to hear what you think of his stuff, and quite frankly so would I!

Since I literally sit four feet away from his computer, and hear every reaction he has when someone pays his page a visit. *grins*
So if you haven't done so - go give a hug to your favorite photographer today. I know I'm gonna.
